Counties of Kenya

Article 6(1) — the forty-seven counties

The First Schedule names the forty-seven counties of Kenya. It is part of the constitutional text and works with Article 6 on territory and devolution.

In the classroom: Pair this list with Chapter Two (the Republic) and Chapter Eleven (devolution). Students should be able to explain that counties are not optional add-ons—they are named in the Constitution itself.
